The Refugee Kids Summer Program held its first event of the season in July with a visit to the Smithsonian National Zoological Park. This trip could not have been more exciting for the newly arrived families because this was their first trip to Washington, DC and the first time these children were able to see wild animals from all over the world. Lions roaring, adorable baby pandas playing and sea lions splashing in the water made for an unforgettable adventure.
In addition to interactive events and field trips, the Summer Program began its English tutoring program in Northern Virginia for children ages 5-18. Currently, one-on-one tutoring is provided weekly at the Tysons-Pimmit Regional Library; efforts are underway to expand the program to Alexandria.
