It’s Never Too Late to Become a Foster Parent

One day while driving to work, Kimberly J. heard a story on the radio about two little girls who had been found in a freezer because of their inept caregivers. Motivated by the story and understanding the number of children who could benefit from a loving family, Ms. J. realized at that moment that she had waited too long to become a foster mother—a role she had wanted to play for several years but never had the inertia to research opportunities. After discussing the option with her husband that evening, they investigated their options, contacted LSS/NCA, and signed up to provide children a loving and nurturing home the very next day.

Thus far, they have welcomed nearly 30 children into their family and have provided the guidance and care needed until the children can be reunited with their birth parents or find permanent loving families. Currently, the family has 2 foster daughters and has recently adopted a little boy who found them through LSS/NCA’s foster care placement. The J. family is a stand out example of how one person, one family, can make a difference in the lives of dozens of children.

Each day, there are approximately 397,000 children who are in foster care. Some of these are still looking for a temporary family to love while they find a permanent home—and many of these are right here in the Washington Dc area.
