Last week LSS/NCA welcomed an excited group of kids for our Youth Haven camp retreat, a camp designed for children affected by HIV/AIDS. Throughout the week campers put their creative talent to use by creating jewelry, making tie dye t-shirts, eating s’mores, and dancing.
Because camp is free for participants, we relied heavily on donated supplies throughout the week including: pillows, pillow-cases, beach towels, flip-flops, toiletries, craft supplies, flashlights, healthy snacks, and even a few new sneakers and swim suits.
Children from the cleanest and messiest cabins received awards each day and participated in skill challenges and team building activities throughout the week, including a Talent show finale! The counselors—whom used to be campers themselves– are so proud of our young campers!
Youth Haven is in its 16th year of offering hope and joy to children in our community and each week of camp is possible because of the outpouring of love and support from our community. If you are interested in learning more about this program and how you can help, please visit our website.
